We use the PROFILE laser peel in our Albany medical spa to help restore the skin's natural beauty. The laser removes a thin layer of the skin's surface encouraging the growth of fresh, new skin cells. Often used on exposed areas like the face, neck, chest, and hands, PROFILE treats a variety of conditions such as wrinkles, birthmarks, acne scars, solar lentigines, actinic keratoses, hypertrophy scars, and surgical scars.
Other skin rejuvenation options include BBL™ photo rejuvenation therapy, ProFractional™ treatments, and Erbium laser resurfacing. During your consultation, we will help you decide which treatment will help you attain your aesthetic goals within your available recovery time.
First, your physician will discuss your anesthesia options to properly manage any discomfort from the laser peel, as the amount of discomfort varies from patient to patient. After your selected anesthesia has taken effect, your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. The PROFILE laser beam will be delivered through a computer-controlled device that automatically scans the area of your skin being treated. You may hear a snapping or popping noise as the laser beam gently removes the outer skin cells.
The procedure usually takes from a few minutes to half an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated and the depth of your peel.
Redness is common and swelling may be present in the treated areas for the first few hours after treatment. Actual healing time varies among individuals and will also depend on your actual treatment depth. It will take a few days to replace the outer layer of your skin. Your skin will have a residual pink or red color that will resolve over several weeks. Your physician will answer any questions about temporary changes to your skin color and how they may be camouflaged.
Your new skin will be very sensitive to ultraviolet light so you must avoid sun exposure until you have fully healed. Be sure to cover your skin, wear a hat, and use a good sunscreen if you go outdoors.
