Dr. Susan GannonDr. Susan M. Gannon, MD, is one of The Plastic Surgery Group’s highly-skilled surgeons, performing both plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures for the face, breasts, body and hands in order to increase her patients’ confidence through natural looking results.

How did you first become interested in healthcare and plastic surgery?

I decided I wanted to go into medicine while in high school, but after college I was unsure if it was the right choice. I worked in a lab for several years before returning to school. I went to medical school after having four children (I have five now), and I became interested in plastic surgery during medical school. I saw a presentation about Operation Smile, a worldwide charity organization that helps treat facial deformities. After that presentation, I began looking into plastic surgery and I fell in love with it. I’ve always enjoyed learning from the variety of cases that you encounter in this field.

What are your specialities at the practice?

Dr. Gannon & Art De CureI mostly do breast and body contouring, involving both cosmetic and reconstructive cases.

What is the most rewarding or moving patient story you have encountered so far?

My favorite stories tend to involve my breast cancer patients. One young girl, in her late twenties, was having bilateral mastectomies and it was devastating her. She was not married and concerned about finding someone who would love her. After her reconstruction, it was great to see her self-confidence come back. She came back to visit me when she was engaged, and she’s married now. She’s the type of patient you know you’ve really helped.

What is your favorite part about your job?

Dr. Gannon, Plastic Surgeon

Seeing those patients come back – seeing the confidence a lot of people gain after
undergoing their procedures. One of my breast cancer patients felt so good, she went down to NYC where she did a topless photo shoot with other breast cancer survivors.

What are you most likely to be doing on a Sunday afternoon?

I’m usually at the hockey rink cheering on my youngest son. He’s the third of my children to play hockey.

What was the last movie you saw?

I finally got around to seeing Lincoln. I tend to see more children’s movies with my son, Jack.

Where is your favorite place to visit?

I like to find a nice warm beach to relax in the sun where I can get caught up on my reading. I am looking forward to a week away to the Caribbean in March.

What is your favorite meal to cook for your friends or family?

My favorite food is eggplant – especially when it’s homemade.
