I always say that when considering a plastic surgery procedure, our Albany and Saratoga Springs patients who follow our pre- and postoperative instructions tend to have the best recovery periods and most satisfying results. That said, there are some things beyond the basic prep instructions that can make your experience even better.
Adding these treatments to your surgical plan can make you more comfortable and make your results last longer and be better than ever.
Treat Yourself to a Massage, on Us
Before surgery, after surgery, or both, massage therapy makes an excellent complement to your procedure. Aside from the obvious benefit of helping you unwind and cast off any anxiety aside before your day of surgery, a massage improves your circulation by relaxing the muscle tissue. Better circulation means your body is better prepared to begin the healing process, and it also reduces the risk of blood clots.
After your procedure, a massage helps to alleviate pain and inflammation, and it can even expedite your recovery.
And here’s some more good news: If you book a cosmetic surgical procedure with us in May 2016 (minimum $2,500), you’ll receive a free Spa One Signature Massage that you may redeem after the procedure.
Mix Up Your Makeup & Skin Care
Once you’ve had time to recover from a facelift or rhinoplasty, you may want to adjust the way you apply makeup. Changing the contours of your face also affects what will be most effective when accenting certain facial features. I often recommend that patients consider scheduling a professional makeup tutorial session with one of our certified makeup artists at Spa One so they can get better acquainted with the changes to their faces.
Re-examining your skin care regimen is also a good idea. Keep in mind that your face will need several months to fully heal, so it’s best to make sure that any skin care products you’re using are mild (e.g., no deep facial cleansers) and hypoallergenic. You’ll also need to be especially vigilant about sun damage in the first few months and wear SPF 30 sunscreen daily. Our Spa One team can offer skin care advice and product recommendations that will help you maintain your surgical results.
Add Longevity to Your Results With Nonsurgical Treatments
After your body has healed and you’ve successfully taken years off your appearance, you’ll want to keep it that way. Remember that while a facial procedure reverses the effects of aging, it won’t stop the clock altogether.
For patients interested in preserving their results for years to come, I generally recommend non-surgical treatments like Ultherapy, BOTOX® Cosmetic or microneedling treatments. While surgery targets the deeper tissues to give you a natural, lifted look, these nonsurgical treatments are great for fine lines, discoloration, and other superficial skin concerns.
We offer a host of nonsurgical treatments and are happy to recommend the right ones for you.
