Laser Hair Removal: 3 Tips Patients Wish They Had Known Sooner

Our Albany laser hair removal patients share what they wish they had known about the procedure.

You know what they say: Hindsight is 20/20. From work to our personal lives, we can always learn from our experiences and do it even better next time. In many situations, we also have an opportunity to learn from the experiences of others — and for our patients, this is true when it comes to laser hair removal. Among cosmetic concerns, unwanted body hair is one of the least talked-about. So, I thought I’d do a little investigating for you, and I have uncovered a few tips from our laser hair removal patients in Albany, NY, and from others around the country. Here’s what they wish they had known before undergoing treatment:

1. Timing is everything. Albany patients hear the words “laser hair removal” and think the procedure is lightning fast. While the treatment sessions themselves can be fast (starting at just 20 minutes), keep in mind that you won’t see your final results overnight.

At Spa One, our staff uses the LightSheer® DUET™ diode laser. It works by producing a highly concentrated beam of light that targets the pigment in your hair follicles. The pigment sucks up all of that energy, and the follicle suddenly goes out of commission.

Because the process interrupts the follicles at various growth stages, you’ll likely need a series of treatments. For our patients, that normally equates to about 4 to 6 sessions, making fall and winter wonderful seasons for treatment. By the time spring comes around, you’ll be enjoying optimal results.

2. It’s easy and comfortable. The technology used for laser hair removal has improved in recent years. A lot. During your treatment with the LightSheer DUET, you’ll feel a gentle suction. The process is much more comfortable than more traditional types of laser hair removal, and you won’t need numbing cream or pain medication. It’s also safe and effective for skin of all colors and types.

3. Have a plan for pre- and post-care. After each treatment, you’ll want to care for your skin like you would after extended sun exposure. Have a good, gentle moisturizer handy, and also be sure to stay out of the sun to avoid any irritation.

If you’d like to make an appointment to begin your laser hair removal treatments, here’s another tip: This month, Spa One is offering 40% off a laser appointment with any skin treatment. Contact us today to put something on the calendar.
