When people think of anti-aging procedures, they don’t often think about rhinoplasty. Our patients from Syracuse, N.Y. and throughout the Capital District are often surprised to learn that the procedure can help to take years off of their overall facial appearance.
As we age, the tissues and structures that support our facial features begin to break down, leading to drooping that makes us look older. This is as true for the nose as for other features, as cartilage and skin start to sag, particularly at the tip of the nose.
One of the ways experienced surgeons can fight this effect is by rebuilding the nose’s internal structures. We can use cartilage from other parts of the body, such as the ear, to strengthen the septum and tip and help keep the overlying tissues from drooping.
It’s also often important to address more superficial skin issues — particularly discoloration — for older patients. Age spots, sun spots, and hyperpigmentation are more common the more sun exposure a person has had. In addition to surgical strengthening of the nose’s inner structures, we often recommend laser procedures, such as skin resurfacing to clear up these concerns.
