Before & After Photos

What is the difference between BOTOX and facial fillers?

BOTOX® Cosmetic uses a chemical to temporarily relax facial muscles, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Dermal fillers are temporary as well, but are used to smooth wrinkles and folds by filling out the underlying skin. They can also add volume and plumpness to areas such as the lips and cheeks. We use fillers to treat "static" wrinkles, which form over time due to aging and skin laxity. BOTOX, on the other hand, treats "dynamic" wrinkles, which develop from repeated movements such as facial expressions.

Does BOTOX hurt?

We administer BOTOX in our comfortable Albany, NY office using a very fine needle. Any discomfort is typically minimal, and the procedure takes only about 5 minutes. The number of injections given depends on the extent of correction desired. Most patients are able to resume their normal activities immediately. A cold compress may help to alleviate any residual soreness.

Are BOTOX results immediate? How long do they last?

Though you may see improvement within a couple of days, it usually takes about 1 week before the full results have developed. A single BOTOX treatment can last for up to 4 months, at which time you may return for more. Be aware that results may vary between patients.

Where is BOTOX used?

Our physicians find that BOTOX works best on the upper face for fine lines and deeper wrinkles of the forehead and eye areas. If you wish to treat other areas of the face, such as lip lines or smile lines (nasolabial folds), facial fillers are better suited.

Can a BOTOX treatment be combined with a dermal filler treatment?

Yes. Because the 2 types of treatments help soften wrinkles in different ways, we often find it beneficial to combine them for more complete rejuvenation. In certain treatment areas, BOTOX may be used to enhance and sustain the volume added with dermal fillers.

Can BOTOX be used instead of cosmetic surgery?

In certain cases, we can elevate the eyebrows for a non-surgical alternative to an eyelid lift or restore the eyebrow arch for a non-surgical alternative to a brow lift. Keep in mind that results from BOTOX treatments are temporary. Patients who have significant sagging of the eyelids or brow area might better benefit from cosmetic surgery.

What are the side effects of BOTOX?

Most of the common side effects associated with BOTOX have more to do with how it is administered than with the product itself. Our team believes it is imperative that only trained medical professionals who understand the complex, delicate structure of the facial muscles administer BOTOX. Side effects generally occur at the injection sites and can include bruising, redness, swelling, and pain.

More serious side effects, such as drooping eyelids, vision problems, or chest pain are rare and should be evaluated by a doctor.
