Case Number: 1166
This is a 54 year old lady who disliked her facial aging characteristics including the excess skin of the face, jawline and neck. She did not want surgery and we discussed her options. Ulthera tightening of the skin was chosen as the method of using ultrasonic waves to stimulate the areas treated to produce new collagen, the framework for tissue tightening.
Ulthera treatment is accomplished by placing a gel on a patient's face after outlining and mapping the facial areas to be treated. Two layers of treatment are chosen and the treatment gives some but usually minimal discomfort. It does take time and for a full face treatment, it takes about 2-3 hours. Treatments can be directed to areas of special concern. This patient had a full face treatment.
The procedure involves the use of a monitor similar to the screen used for ultrasound for fetal monitoring. As the areas are targeted in the layers below the skin, then the tightening soundwaves are released and the applicator is moved to another area.
The patient is seen at about 5 weeks and there is a considerable tightening of the skin and improvement of the collagen components. Patients vary in response to the Ultherapy. There will be more improvement even up to 3 months. The patient is wearing minimal makeup and these are not retouched photos.
