This is a 31 year old man who presented with a reasonable amount of male breast tissue (gynecomastia) and he also had areas that he was having a tough time getting into shape in the abdominal and waist areas. The choice was to do a combination procedure that involved the removal of the male breast tissue and liposuction of areas around the rest of his torso to give the best delineation of his muscular build. He is actually "hidden" in fatty tissue depositions that can be removed with liposuction. He presents like most men do with this condition. The various stories of this group (not necessarily this gentleman but in general) are quite remarkable in that they are VERY self conscious and will not remove their shirts no matter what the weather or event. I remember one man in this age range who did not only not remove his shirt EVER in front of anyone including his wife and two children but would NEVER go to bed without a T shirt. When most men are waiting for the summer, patients in this category are wanting the weather to get colder so the tops can stay on and there will be less pressure to remove their tops. This procedure takes this feeling away very quickly. This muscular man is not actually seen as muscular because of the fatty layers but when you take these fatty tissue areas away and during the same procedure excise the male breast tissue, then there is another level of confidence. From the pictures, you can imagine this man in the coming summers. Great definition. The depositions of fat usually have a genetic component of some sort as does the gynecomastia condition. Interestingly, gynecomastia patients are almost IMPOSSIBLE to cure with liposuction on the chest. The male breast tissue is too tough to be liposuctioned. It is a rare patient who will have that WOW result with liposuction alone. Therefore, I tell all patients that they need to have it excised and then the fibrous tissue is gone and the condition is essentially cured. The incision is just around the bottom 1/2 of the areola (colored part of the nipple/areola complex) and all that is needed is done through this very "tough to see" incision. If liposuction is done on other parts of the body, then several 1/8th inch entrance sites might be used. The patient is seen at ONE YEAR POST OP in the pictures above You can imagine the happiness of this patient. Happy patient = happy doctor.........Truly, CONFIDENCE IS BEAUTIFUL
