Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure used to increase breast volume using saline or silicone gel implants. It can improve naturally small breasts, restore fullness lost with aging or pregnancy, and enhance overall body proportions.

Good candidates for breast augmentation are women in good overall health with realistic expectations about their results. The Breast Augmentation Procedure

Our plastic surgeons typically perform breast augmentation surgery at a nearby outpatient surgical center using general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. The procedure generally takes about an hour, and patients return home the same day with assistance from a responsible adult.

Incision placement is customized to each patient and may be located along the breast fold (inframammary), around the areola (periareolar), or within the underarm area (transaxillary). After the surgeon makes the incision, she creates a pocket for the implant either beneath the chest muscle (submuscular) or directly behind the breast tissue (subglandular). Submuscular placement is often recommended for women with less natural breast tissue because it contributes to a softer, more natural-looking result.

Once the implants are positioned, the incisions are carefully closed with sutures.

The Recovery Process

Most patients are able to return to work within about a week after breast augmentation surgery. During the first few days of recovery, it is normal to experience soreness, swelling, and fatigue. Your breast surgeon may prescribe medication to help manage discomfort, and patients should focus on rest while avoiding strenuous activity.

Within the first one to two weeks, patients typically transition from gauze dressings into a surgical bra and gradually resume light daily activities. Physical exercise, upper-body strain, and heavy lifting should still be avoided during this portion of recovery.

with Dr Gannon I believe it was back in May for breast augmentation. She is by far the most knowledgeable, confident surgeon I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet with. I just had my surgery yesterday morning, I feel great with minimal pain, I had a question today “Saturday “ I called on call and who answered the phone.. DR GANNON!! This woman is so caring and compassionate! Will breast augmentation affect mammograms?

Breast implants generally do not prevent patients from receiving mammograms, especially when imaging is performed by experienced technicians. Additional views or ultrasound imaging may sometimes be recommended for a more complete evaluation.

Will I be able to breastfeed after a breast augmentation?

Many women are still able to breastfeed after breast augmentation surgery. The likelihood often depends on the incision location and implant placement used during the procedure. I too had Dr. Fournier do an otoplasty a little over a year ago now and he did an incredible job! I could not be happier! His bedside manner was great and was very receptive to me having local instead of general anesthesia (which I asked if it was possible to do). My 1.5 year old son had a large cut on his forehead that was 5 days old, and still bleeding after already seeing both an urgent care and an ER. We went to see Briana Benson, PA at the Plastic Surgery Group and she cleaned up the wound, used local anesthetic, and the placed 4 sutures all in the office with my husband and I were holding our squirming son. She has an amazing way with kids, and she was able to be so confident, professional, and fast when doing this. It was also a precise suture, and will minimize scaring. If I could give her more than 5 stars, I would. Hopefully, we will never need a plastics office again for our little one, but if we ever do, we will surely be returning.
