Neck Lift Before and After

What Is a Neck Lift?
Who Are Good Neck Lift Candidates?
The Procedure
Dr. Gannon and Dr. Hargrave perform neck lift surgery using general anesthesia or a local anesthetic in combination with sedatives. He or she will review these options and help you make the best choice for you. The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis and takes about two or three hours to complete.
Next, Dr. Gannon or Dr. Hargrave makes small incisions behind or beneath the ears and possibly below the chin. The skin is then repositioned and tightened. In some cases, fatty tissue may be removed to enhance the overall effect. The incisions are then closed with sutures.
Neck Lift Recovery
Following the procedure, your plastic surgeon will place supportive bandages around your neck to maximize the healing process, provide support to your neck, and help you feel more comfortable during recovery. You will be advised to keep your head elevated as much as possible, including when you sleep. Many people find it comfortable to sleep on two pillows or even on a recliner. It’s crucial to avoid moving your neck for the first couple of weeks.
You’ll notice swelling that will probably look its worst after about three days. Stitches that were placed during the neck lift procedure are removed within a week or so. After about two weeks, you should feel much better and begin to see the benefits of your neck lift surgery. Keep in mind that everybody heals at their own rate, so it’s essential to listen to the recommendations and directions of your plastic surgeon.

Neck Lift FAQs
Is there a difference between male and female neck lift surgery?
While the basic surgical principles are similar, surgeons may adjust incision placement and skin tightening patterns to maintain masculine features in male patients. Men typically require more conservative skin removal to preserve natural neck angles and avoid feminizing the jawline.
What about non-surgical alternatives?
Kybella® is a non-surgical option that might be appropriate if your primary concern is a double chin from excess fat tissue. However, these patients must have good skin elasticity. This FDA-approved procedure involves making injections into the submental area (beneath the chin), prompting the body to metabolize the unwanted fat.
Will I have visible scars after surgery?
Your plastic surgeon will make small incisions in areas that are not visible, such as behind your ears or, in some cases, below your chin. Dr. Gannon or Dr. Hargrave will make every effort to make these incisions and the resulting scars as invisible as possible. Over time, any scars will fade and become virtually undetectable.
What happens if I gain or lose weight after a neck lift?
Significant weight fluctuations can affect your neck lift results by stretching or loosening the tightened skin. Maintaining a stable weight before and after surgery helps preserve the improved neck contour.
